A man who helped himself to a burglar alarm in the jail cell of a woman who he had been in a relationship with for a few years was sentenced Thursday to 18 months in prison.
The man, who has not been identified, was sentenced in U.S. District Court in San Antonio for a single count of possession of burglary tools and an enhancement of the burglary charge.
Prosecutors had argued the crime was premeditated, according to the court document.
The man had entered the woman’s jail cell after his ex-girlfriend reported a burglary, which she later determined to be false, prosecutors said.
He took the woman to his house and set up a surveillance camera that captured the break-in.
Prosecutors said the woman then drove away, and when she returned he broke into her home, stole a cellphone and the burglary tools.
